African music has leveled up in recent years, in terms of respect and worldwide fame. People from all over the world are becoming familiar with the African beats and the artists of African music have made it all possible. In the year 2022, many African artists have gained worldwide recognition, even charted in the global rankings. Several artists have gained worldwide fame in the past year, and it looks like the triumph will continue this year as well.
 This is a list of 10 African musicians who you need to look out for in 2023 as they are expected to take this journey of making African music more global.
Bloody Civilian
 This Nigerian singer and songwriter have recently gotten huge attention from all over the world and she 100% deserves it all. Bloody Civilian was recently featured on the soundtrack album of one of the biggest movies in the world in 2022, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. She also teamed up with the Mavin star Rema on “Wake Up”. After the release of the album, the artist also released a solo single “How To Kill A Man“. For this self-produced single, she studied music production as well. Apparently, fans can expect something big from the artist and we cannot keep calm!!
Ami Faku
 It seems like a decade since the artist released her debut album “iMali” which featured some huge names and contributions from Blaq Diamond, the famous duo. But she has not been completely silent since. In the previous year, she also worked with Prince Kaybee, Black Coffee, Aymos, and Karyendasoul. So a new album from her this year will not be much of a surprise!

 The Nigerian artist in one word has dominated the country’s music scenes this year. He started the year with a feature on Mayorkun’s song “Holy Father“, which went ahead and became hugely successful. Then he released an EP “Outlaw”, which consisted of seven tracks featuring KTIZO and Tempoe. Some of the hits are “Apollo”, “Kolomental”, “Jolene” and lastly, “Soweto” which went viral on social media. So, it is not far to get a full-length album from this genius.
Young Jonn
 Always known as the Wicked Producer, the switching of this music lover to a singer was shocking for all. His first viral hit “Dada” and the remix of it featuring Davido, became an even bigger hit. He went on to dominate the music charts with the track, “Xtra Cool” and his chartbuster EP “Love Is Not Enough Vol 2”. Fans are expecting to have something big from him this year.
 If any Nigerian artist has the most successful year in 2022, it has to be Tems. She can easily take the crown of the Queen of the African music industry in 2022 and it has truly been her year. Nigerians were already familiar with this force for her several hits like “Mr. Rebel”, “Try Me”, and the “For Broken Ears” EP. However, she became worldwide known for her collaborative hit with Wizkid, “Essence”. Then she went on to bag other collaborations with world-famous superstars like Drake, Beyoncé, and Future. You have also heard her with Rihanna on the soundtrack album of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. She released another EP titled “If Orange Was A Place” and also became hugely successful. Now everyone is waiting for her debut album this year and the anticipation is out of this world!

 The list will be incomplete without the fan-favorite OBO on it. The artist mainly focused on collaborations this year, yet still dominated the industry. He has become Africa’s one of the most prominent artists that the world knows, besides Burna Boy and Wizkid. The previous year, we all have seen him in collaboration with Young Jonn, DaBaby, Focalistic, CKay, Pheelz, and more. The gospel-inspired track, “Stand Strong” with Sunday Service Choir, and his contribution to the World Cup song “Hayya Hayya: Better Together” with Trinidad Cardona and Aisha were among the most highlighted works. Everyone is anticipating his follow-up album this year.
Sho Madjozi
 Sho Madjozi made her comeback and marked her first lead entry to the airwaves in a while with the hit track “Toro” featuring DDG. She took some time off the scene and it proved to be better for the artist as her comeback was something worth remembering. She is now all set to hit the road and open for the famous French artist Stromae at Madison Square Garden. And yes, fans have a confirmation that there will be new music coming this year.
 This Ghanaian singer and songwriter had a memorable last year where the African music scene witnessed the beautiful vocals of the artist on the immense hit “Forever”. The track went along and became a massive success which then returned with a remix with Omah Lay and became a bigger hit. In 2022, she released “My Diary EP”, which included the viral hit track “Something”. For this year, the artist has even bigger plans for her music career. The fans are hoping for it to be a full-length album as her recent collaboration with South African star AK on the track “Paradise” also became an instant hit. So, the fans are really excited as to what the artist has for them in her sleeves and we are hoping it would be something fresh, unique, and beautiful.
 Some people would argue that AKA was late to the party in 2022, but some would firmly say he was on time as long as he is giving quality music to the listeners.  If we talk about which country gave us the best music in 2022, the winner would undoubtedly be Ghana. Most African people have sung along to Black Sherif’s “Kwaku The Traveller” in the past year which made him a revelation on the airwaves. The artist was unstoppable in 2022, as he not only gifted with one hit song but also released a brand new album “The Villain I Never Was”. Not only Africa but the world could not ignore him as well. The artist stayed on top with several hits like “Second Sermon Remix”, “45” and “Soja”. This made the fans and music lovers anticipate what he will release in 2023.
There are also artists like Mayorkun, Magixx, Oxlade, Samthing Soweto, Major League DJz, etc. who are all set to release in 2023. With all these musical appearances and records, 2023 will continue to be a musically-enriched year for the African music industry.
